How I felt after I declared my major. Literally no one else felt this way about it. Disappointing.

It’s been a busy week. I’ve been in and out of meetings, sending emails like it’s my job, and avoiding the heinously cold weather by power walking from location to

location while trying my hardest to not look completely insane. Surprisingly, it isn’t as bad as it sounds.

Except for the cold. It’s so cold.

This week I finally did what I had considered (for absolutely no reason at all) to be scary and impossible; I declared my major! I may have had to do a quick google search on how exactly to go about doing it, but that’s not important. What’s important is that I took a few baby steps in the direction of my own personal adult-y life.

On Thursday I met with Jennie Stephens, a lovely woman who coordinates the Environmental Science and Policy program, which falls under Clark’s International Development, Community, and Environment program. What a mouthful. She not only filled out a major declaration form with me, but she also helped me figure out how far along I am within the major, and what I need to do to ensure that I can finish my degree on time (it requires 18 classes – yikes), complete my music minor, study abroad, and work towards the fifth-year program. It was exciting, but also mildly scary. I have a lot to do in the next five semesters.

After our meeting was over, Jennie Stephens welcomed me to the major and sent me on my way to go submit my declaration forms to the registrar. So I did.

And nothing happened.

No explosions, confetti cannons, or celebrations. Not even warm weather to smile down upon me as I walked home. It was still cold. It was, overall, a very anticlimactic event. No one was excited about me declaring my major.

No one, that is, except for me. I was absolutely thrilled. I thought that declaring my major was the coolest thing ever, and I had a mini-party-for-one when I got home. A Keeping up with the Kardashian’s marathon and French fries seemed like a perfectly appropriate way to celebrate declaring my major.

Since then, I’ve been in a combination of classes and meetings. Class, class, meetings, class, paperwork, class, class, class, meetings, class. I feel very productive; I’ve got a very busy set of hands over here. I started the study abroad process, and today I accidentally declared my minor.

I’d definitely say it’s been a good week. Busy, and a little bit crazy, but on the whole, definitely good.
