There are two very important things to know about me; I’m very busy, and I’m very forgetful. Over the course of my two years here at Clark, I’ve learned that the best solution for my business/forgetfulness problem is to pack my bag in the morning with everything I could possibly need throughout the day and never go home until the end of the day. If it isn’t with me, I either don’t need it, or I have to live without it for the rest of the day. From 9 AM to anywhere between 7 and 11 PM, my backpack is my entire life.
There have been several posts here about what some other bloggers have on their desks, but since my desk is essentially a pile of tea bags, books, and sentimental nonsense, I figured I would share the contents of my backpack with you. Here we go!
First things first, Organizational Basics: The Planner
A busy girl’s best friend is her trusty planner. This has everything in it., from my assignments, to appointments, practices, notes to myself,
reminders, you name it. I’m constantly referring to my planner, and I can’t imagine going anywhere without it.
School Tools
Can’t go to class without paper or pens! I’ve repurposed a makeup bag to carry pencils, pens, lead, highlighters, and the occaisional discarded sticky note or gum wrapper. All of my pens go in there. Always. I’m not in the business of losing pens.
And of course, I always have my notebooks. I always carry all my notebooks for class just in case I have a spare second (or hour) to look at notes or start an assignment.
I’ve also found carrying around notecards to be amazingly helpful with a lot of things. They’re perfect for flash cards, jotting notes to yourself, and making lists (I love lists). They also make really excellent paper airplanes.
Any combination of these books can be found in my backpack at any time, usually because I put them in my bag to go to the library, and forget to take them out later. It is what it is.
Fooooood!
I always like to have some sort of snack with me. Even if I don’t eat it right away, it’s always nice to know that if I get hungry, I have some apples and oranges stashed away in my bag. They’re especially nice for late night homework adventures when the cafeteria is closed and Jazzman’s has run out of croissants.
At all times, I’m carrying some sort of coffee cup. I drink coffee at almost every meal and I always have a tumblr of it in my bag. I actually can’t even imagine a day of class without coffee.
And of course, water. I try to drink at least a liter of water every day, and that’s pretty easy thanks to my trusty reusable water bottle. Also, Clark has recently installed water bottle filling stations throughout campus, they’re so awesome!
…And other stuff
I always seem to have at least five varieties oflipsticks/chapsticks/balms in my bag. Do I put them there? Do they just appear there? How are there so many? Where do they come from?
In the same vein,I also have three pairs of headphones in my bag. Where did all of these headphones come from? How did they get so tangled? Why does one girl need so many headphones?
If there’s one thing that I don’t constantly have, it’s my computer. I have it most of the time, but not always. A lot of the time, if something comes up where I absolutely must use a computer immediately, I can usually just improvise with my phone or a computer in the library. Convenient!
And on that note, I always have my phone and computer chargers. Hey, you never know. Always gotta be prepared!
And finally, my nifty little keychain/wallet thing. This little green guy is basically my life outside of what’s in my backpack. My school ID (which allows me to eat, get into my house, etc) and my drivers liscence are in there, as well as keys to my room, keys to a friend’s house, my library card, a CVS card (discounts, holla) and money and stuff. Last year, I had my wallet and my keys separate from eachother, and it seemed like one of them was always missing (Like I said…forgetful!). But now I never seem to lose my wallet/keys thing. Neat!
Thank you, trusty backpack, for helping me keep my life together! I couldn’t do it without you.
